The Farmhouse

While sizing up the raccoon situation at the farmhouse (and maybe stealing stuff), Lilith encounters a curious anomaly from her past.

Lilith has been lurking patiently, and waited for the trio of occupants to leave before floating over the porch without touching the floorboards--she wasn't ready to lure out the rat bastard beneath just yet. Now she is picking through the kitchen area for tools--a knife, rope, twine, stuff like that, without much regard for the state of the place or any stuff left in it. She's wearing a sweater, a short skirt and a pair of sleek leggings, all in black and purple, above a pair of very nice pumps. They're a little dirty, but very nice. Any shoe enthusiast can appreciate them. Her black dragonfly wings extend from her back, and she's carrying a pair of light axes.

Desiree stepped out only briefly, a quick forage trip around the farm but only well after Hela and Lettie had already left. She'd been unconscious a couple of days now and was still trying to get her balance and grounding in this new, cursed (to her) area that wouldn't allow her to leave. And boy, had she tried. At some point she had discovered running water and bathing implements, and in one of the closets a rather shapeless pink and flowered mumu. It did absolutely nothing for her figure but it was better than the obliterated clothing she had arrived in. Returning to the old farm, there was a noise coming from inside...and it caused her to hesitate in the doorway of the foyer. Her breath caught and her heart thrummed in her ears as she stood stock still, listening for movement. As quietly as she could, being a terrified human -not entirely silent, she slowly armed herself with an old broom that hadn't been used in many years, and made her way toward the kitchen. It did little good trying to be sneaky as the battered floorboards creaked loudly, causing Des to stop and stare wide-eyed at the winged creature in front of her. For a beat, she stands there, staring, holding the broom like a baseball bat that would do absolutely no good against axes. Then, she swallowed dryly, and whispered a haggard, "...nice shoes."

Lilith is in the process of examining a knife block and its array of meat-cutting tools when the sound of another's approach stills her movements. Her head turns just a fraction towards the open doorway. Rather than reach for the axes, she curls her fingers around the handle of the knife. Lilith turns as soon as the floor creaks to face Desiree, knife in hand. She looks like a wild woman, and were it under less serious circumstances she would laugh at her absurd attire. What would her mom say? A grin spreads across her face as she surveys the broom woman. "Thanks."

Desiree drops her bright silver gaze (a new development from the dull grey it used to be) from Lilith's face to the knife in her hands and back, her grip on the broom tightening. Okay, Lilith has the deadly angle but Des has reach...that stands for something, right? She gave the smallest twitch of her head, sending her earrings jingling in the oddest of movements. Wake UP! But no, they and -he- were still completely silent. "I'll be honest with you," she heard herself speak, but her voice was tired and sluggish, dry and raw. "I don't want to do this, but I'm also not ready to die tonight. If you try anything with that knife, I will go down fighting. And I'm sure this broom wouldn't feel the best slung upside your head."

Lilith 's vivid green eyes are full of challenge. The smile that tugs at the corners of her mouth would be a familiar one, charming in a dangerous sort of way. Her other hand drops to the haft of one of her axes, but she doesn't fully grasp or pull the weapon just yet. As fun as a scuffle with an unknown foe would be, they are all in some kind of trapped bubble here, and this one had two friends living with her. Lili weighs her odds, tilting her head just a little bit, but Desiree isn't the only person whose voices of influence have gone silent. "Probably not," she agrees. "But could you land a killing blow before I tossed this?" She could see it now, the correct angle, the trajectory in the space between them; how Desiree would move, how she would counter. "Look, I'm not here to hurt anybody." But I wouldn't mind doing so. "I'm just scavenging for shit. There's plenty of it in here."

Desiree shook her head, seemingly completely accepting of whatever fate would arise from the throw of that knife. "Nope," she agrees easily, gradually loosening her stance and standing a little straighter. "So, you don't live here either then. I guess we're both scavengers of other people's shit." She still wasn't aware that Lettie and Hela were real. However, it was then that she noticed something about the woman as the adrenaline began to slow. That smile, it was cocky. That face, it was youthful and lovely. Those axes...her heart gave a squeeze. But what really, really got to her, were the wings. She looked, unabashedly, between the axes and the wings...and the broom hit the floor. Before she knew it, she was crying again! Not just a few tears either, and way more than a whimper. This was full blown ugly crying as she fell heavily into a chair that blessedly held her weight. "I'm sorry," she tried wiping her eyes and spoke through the sobs, "I'm sorry. You just remind me of..." The rest was blurbled by hands covering her face. Not uncomfortable at all, right?

Lilith gradually lowers the knife; she'll slip it into her belt, where she has a few more tools and utility items, without fully removing her attention from Desiree. Redhead. Busty. Kind of hot. A little more than kind of, but more of a MILF than someone Lili would ordinarily go for. Still, that moment of bravery still kind of does it for her. Her green eyes widen as the broom hits the floor and Desiree starts crying--, and not "I just ruined my mom's favorite shoes and she's going to kill me" crying, but really crying, the sobbing of loss so profound and deep that she is momentarily rendered speechless with its sudden confrontation. "Uhh..." A heartbeat passes, and then another. "I don't think they're coming back for any of it, if it makes you feel better? There's an army of spiders on everything." She ventures a cautious step forward, inwardly calculating how quickly Desi could grab that broom and clock her, if this might be a trick somehow.

Desiree is a hot mess. Her hair was finger-combed and thrown into a messy ponytail on top of her head, the red curls tumbling literally everywhere. Her face was still somewhat bruised from "the trip", dark circles under her eyes, the old farmhouse mumu and slippers. She was anything but threatening at that very moment. As Lilith attempted to somewhat console her, she wiped her eyes and nose on the long sleeves of her house dress. "You even talk like him!" And she was crying again and muttering unintelligible things in her hands. After some time, the sobs slow to mere hiccups, but she was too exhausted and defeated to feel true embarrassment. "I don't think they are," Hiccup. "either. I haven't seen any living person since I got here besides you. Where are we? Do you know?"

Lilith gradually starts to put two and two together. It's not the desperation of the situation, or the absurd hilarity of being come upon by a redhead in a mumu, it's her. Her wings. Her smile. Her darkness. How could this have happened? Had her dad fucked every redhaired woman in the multiverse? That thought triggers something, and the faintest echo in the back of her mind, a sound like the buzzing of a million little wings just like her own. "Well the name on the water tower says Grimwych, so I'm assuming we're in Grimwych. A guy with a moustache told me there was a dead dragon around here. We should find its hoard and cash out a little before someone else does." Could a woman in a mumu be useful against a dragon? Maybe as food, but even Lilith isn't going to offer a monster someone else as a sacrifice--she's better than that. "Sooo I'm Lilith Axeas. What's your name?"

Desiree gently lay her fingertips against her temple, fighting to follow along with the conversation. Grimwych. There was no sich area, right? Not one she had ever heard of. "Grimwych," she repeats, again, her voice broken with the slightest of upward inflections courtesy of so many spilled tears. She wipes her nose again and sniffles, turning her tear stained face up to Lilith with a careless shrug. "A dragon. Sure." Why not? Maybe the thing would come back to life and put her out of this misery. Then, Lilith spoke again, and Desiree's eyes sharpened intensely and quickly. Her breath caught and she whispered, "What did you say your name was...?"

Lilith wiggles her toes in her dirty but exquisitely fancy shoes. "Well they might have enough coin to replace these shoes before my mom finds out I borrowed them." And also, money, and stuff, and challenge. She hasn't fully dropped her guard, and her eyes sharpen in turn. "Uh, Lilith. Like Lily but with an -ith at the end."

Desiree shakes her head vehemently, rising from the chair onto weak legs; so weak in fact, that her knees give out damn near immediately and she hits the chair again. "No no," she flaps her hand, dismissing the pronunciation explanation, "You said Axeas. Your last name is Axeas?" She pushed herself up again, broom forgotten as she stepped forward toward the winged woman. There was no disguising the way she studied her with an almost frantic concern. "Your eyes are different..." Spoken off-handed and mainly to herself. "But those wings. The axes."

Lilith plants her hands on her hips and gives Desiree sort of a deadpan stare. "My mom has green eyes, and great taste in shoes," she replies. "Leeet me guess, you know my dad. Axes? Wings? Mord Wraith?" Now she is the one feeling a little faint, because how in the world as her mother would say. She backs up until her butt hits the counter. The girl sighs, accepting the fact that no matter how far she does, someone will know her parents.

Lettie wasn't expecting anyone new to be at the house when she returned from her outing with another. The werelynx was carrying a large box full of hundreds of mismatched forks in one arm and an old lawn gnome with chipped and faded paint in the other. It was a bit of a wiggle and a jiggle to get the door open without setting down her stuff. Carefree she let herself back in and called out, "Mom, I'm home! I brought you something!" She was chipper and happy sounding. There was a garden ornament after all. Who wouldn't be excited having one of those and forks, all the forks.

Lilith looks past Desiree to Lettie and her box of forks. She sees neither wings or axes, but scrutinizes the werelynx's face anyway.

Lettie has no wings, only a birthmark one cannot see on her back of them. Freckle dusted face that doesn't show resemblance to anyone in particular. The one human looking eye of blue matches her father's, though the other eye is green with a cat-slit pupil. Her tri-colored hair doesn't given much insight either. Everyone and no one all at once with fuzzy ears atop her head that gave away the less than human nature. "Who are you?" She shifted her box of forks, she wasn't sharing the food stabbers with a stranger.

Lilith crosses her arms over her chest. Her clothing, while maybe still damp and slept in, was once very fashionable in shades of black and purple. She studies Lettie the shirt and cool and calm collectedness. "Lilith," she repeats. "Axeas. You?"

Lettie was in some left over pair of overalls from upstairs, the legs rolled to fit her shorter legs, and an sweater that was too big but little amount of hole damage from arriving here. There was no trace of fashion sense, unless too oversized and barely fitting was it. She moved to set the box down, "Lettie," but had grabbed a fork in the process and flung it right at miss crossed arms, "Axeas."

Desiree returns from the washroom, shuffling into the room with her mumu, slippers, and dabbing at her eyes with a small hand towel that has seen better days.

Lilith nods in quiet acceptance. "I probably should've recognized you, but my dad had a lot of kids with a lot of people and most of my siblings are a lot older than I am. Nice to meet you. I'm still keeping the stuff I scavenged."

Lettie looks over to her mom then back to Lilith, "I'm only eighteen, I'm not that old." She does offer a faint nod though, "Fair amount from what I've learned. Then again, I think I take more after the birth mom-dad dude than my birth dad-dad dude."

Lilith nods very slowly. "Well, I'm twenty, and you weren't raised with me. Only Nona and my twin, and Octavian. Everybody else was grown-up." And now she is grown up.

Desiree pauses in the doorway, looking between Lilith and Lettie. Some similarities between the two, but also vast differences. Didn't matter. Her silver gaze fell on Lettie and fates be damned if it didn't start to well up again. No...no...stop that. "It wasn't a dream," she speaks quietly into the room. "You're real. Really real." With the slightest of trembles to her bottom lip, she opens her arms.

Lilith wears casual elegance like a mantle even in this ensemble, but there is also a certain sparkle in her eye, an ease with which she could draw one of those axes. "Definitely not a dream. More a magical experiment gone awry on my end."

Lettie puts the gnome down with the fork and runs across the room when those arms open up for a hug. The lynx wrapping her arms tightly around her in a hug, "You said I wasn't real and fell into the mud, but I brought you back to the house because Miss Hela was here but she said she found another spot to stay and took all the coffee, but to tell you she apologizes for that part." She wasn't planning on letting go of that hug anytime soon. Nope. She glanced over at Lilith, "Nona is a baby...if you were raised around Nona then you'd know that and would of seen me at the camp."

Lilith steps back to allow the two of them their embrace. "Nona is a year older than my twin and me so that would make her twenty-one. But if she was a baby when you saw her last, then maybe you disappeared to come here before I was ever born and then time and space just kept moving and now I'm here too because worlds are weird."

Desiree tried to keep up with the conversation happening between the two ladies, but her thoughts turned to mud when she finally had Lettie in her arms. She wrapped her tight and squeezed, kissing the side of her head before she forces the lynx back for a thorough once over. If her eyes, now silver instead of grey, looked a little maniacal, well - just ignore that please. "Are you okay? Oh Gods, I thought I'd lost you. I was so scared." She pulls the girl into her arms again and may or may not ever let go. It's while holding the lynx that she regards Lilith. "You're one of his daughters too." It wasn't a question. "Nona is, was, a baby, not even a year old. Where," Her voice threatened to crack and she had to clear her throat again. "Where's Sy?" Then to Lettie, "Hela is here too? Hela Foxx? What the hell is happening."

Lilith taps the side of her head. "Probably fucking one of his girlfriends or hiding in someone's soul or axing people or something. You know, Dad stuff." The young woman shrugs, but she does feel a certain pang of a loneliness at the absence of her parents and extended family. "I'm the youngest one. The last one he made before he killed that spirit thing."

Lettie was mostly in tact to that once over, there was the visible gash down her collar bone and the bandages wrapped around her right hand. Otherwise, she is a dirty mess with fresh dust and dirt on her face. She'd been up to something getting that box of many forks. She wrapped her arms right back around the other woman and held onto her. "I thought I was dead-dead, but Dad says I'm not because he isn't. And that dead-dead people don't ask all the questions and contemplate being dead." She nodded, then glanced at Lilith, "Nona was the youngest where I come from. Miss Adraelia hadn't had the wiggle butts yet." She nodded, then added to clarify, "Dad, like Reznor Daddy, not Sypa or Kulanin." Since she had three of them somehow and one Desiree for a mother. "Hela is here, I stumbled into her first, then you, and then Dad. I was brining him here to you, but I'm afraid then things go blank for a bit. Then I was helping miss Hela get forks tonight."

Lilith says [to Lettie] : That's my mom. Don't tell her I borrowed her shoes. She'll kill us both.

Lettie says [to Lilith] : Does that make you my older-younger sister?

Lilith says [to Lettie] : Yeah, I guess so. Weird, huh?

Lettie says [to Lilith] : So weird, so if you are twenty you have no memories of a cat sibling growing up at all?

Desiree sighed heavily and tiredly when she took note of the, for all intents and purposes, insignificant wounds on Lettie. It could have been so much worse. She squeezed the girl once more, then grudgingly released her but didn't dare step more than two to three steps away. You'd think 18ish was too old for a helicopter parent but nah. She watched Lilith, noting her mannerisms and trying to figure out the mother when the ball dropped. Adraelia. Her eyes widened when she realized. "Oh," she breathed. "You're Adry's baby." Her knees threatened to buckle again but she caught herself by holding on to the edge of the old kitchen table. Her free hand came to her stomach where it fisted in the pink cotton material of the night dress. Lettie said something then and it cause Des's focus to snap to her in an instant. "Dad? Reznor?" Balance be damned, she stood straight. "He's here too? Where?" Her heart was pounding again.

Lilith nods to Desiree. "One of them. My twin is still back with them. Probably being perfect and not getting sent to weird past future places." She focuses on Lettie. "Well by the time I was old enough to remember anything most of the other siblings were grown up. It was mostly Octavian and Nona and us. So either you never hung around much and I just never paid attention to you or you just fully disappeared. And since I don't know your mom either...."

Lettie could have been worse on injury and might have if there wasn't other adults keeping that wild curious cat in check. Desiree might have let her go but the Lynx was right back next to her when those legs seemed weak again. Helicopter parent or Velcro kid. Perhaps a little of both. The lynx had been so worried, partly that Desiree no longer wanted her in a new world after the way she found her at the lake. She was relieved that tonight she hugged her and wasn't side stepping her. "Yes, Reznor is here too. The lake spitted him out too. He," she lifted her injured hand, "Fixed my hand and said blood stays inside the lynx, not outside. No doctors here. I don't know where he is. We were walking here...no climbing into abandoned wells...or running off....or picking up shinnies... around the outskirt of town to here. Maybe he went back out for supplies? Or I was bad and ran off? I don't remember. Things still fade out into blackness between things."

Lettie says [to Lilith] : Well, this is my adopted mom. My birth mom is actually the shapeshifter god (in another land). I guess he got drunk and slept with Sypa and well, magic and such, and there was the drunken mistaken baby.

Lilith finds herself missing her own mother the longer the other two hug. Maybe Adry wouldn't be so angry over shoes. We could always buy more, go shopping. Fly together. "I need to get back to scavenging I have a raccoon to vanquish. This little bastard is going down."

Lettie says [to Lilith] : Enjoy your raccoon...whatever that is.

Lilith says [to Lettie] : He's for a little bastard, but I promised the watch keeper I'd turn into dinner. I'm going to be the best damn raccoon killer this world has ever seen.

Lettie says [to Lilith] : Well, I wish you the best in becoming the best raccoon killer there is.

Lilith raises one of her axes, then strolls further into the house to continue scavenging for stuff. Old stuff, not their stuff.
