Roleplay: Desiree x Lettie x Spizzzo

Dated: September 14, 2026

The Lake of Life

Desiree could be found sitting on a fallen log on the riverbank, set back some feet from the water. The log was half rotten and in the part of it beside her that had fallen away, she'd set her boots, her socks, a sodden cardigan. Her pants legs were rolled up about mid calf and she was sitting with her head lowered to her knees, as if she was trying not to pass out. In the position, face hidden and no real identifiable marks, it'd be near impossible to tell who she was beyond just some human being scrunched over with her matted hair falling in damp, debris littered tangles around her shoulders and folded arms. She made no sound, nothing to hear beyond the singing nightime bugs, some frogs in the distance, the cold, misty breeze as it flowed through the tall grasses.

Lettie had left the little farmhouse space that she'd stumbled upon tracking a familiar scent to slink off while there was still a bit of light to attempt to scrounge for things to bring back to Hela. The lynx couldn't be sure what was useful in this new world of the dead-dead folk so she'd picked up anything that held interest to her. Information gathered had informed her that other deadies appeared at the lake, but how many survived to walk away from it to discover the dead town beyond. The odds said not everyone. Things might be findable around the edge of the water was her present thought process to returning to the strange brown waters. The scent of another familiar lingered to her as she neared it. She looked suddenly as pale as one could go as she slowly got closer to Desiree. All the items she was carrying were held tightly against her chest, her voice cracking out just loud enough to be heard, "Mom?" Those lynx ears twitching atop her head as she strained to hear anything from the one that had the scent of her mother.

Desiree didn't have the powers of smell or tracking that Lettie and so many very lucky others had. What she did have though, were tears; there were plenty of those. The trembling voice that spoke out the word, "Mom", caused every cell in her sodden, bruised body to go on high alert and she stiffened there from her position on the rotten log. Her breath held, and for too long, she didn't move. Didn't breathe. It was only after beginning to feel faint that a breath was allowed and she so very, very slowly lifted her head from her knees. What peered up at Lettie was streaked makeup, dark bags under the eyes, a busted lip, mucky face. But perhaps the strangest - her eyes were no longer dull grey, but rather a bright silver...and they were angry and somehow forlorn at the same time. She sat up straighter. "Oh...that's not fair. That's not fair!" She yelled, standing from the log on shaking, bare feet. "You can't pretend to be her. Not her!"

Spizzzo is covered in mud and sludge dredged from the bottom of some sort of body of water. Perhaps a lake. If one were taking bets, a lake. His face has been recently scraped clean, but his shoes still squish, and his moustache droops, sodden and brown with river muck. A little pep enters his step when he hears someone crying out, but he slows again to try to figure out exactly what he's looking at.

Lettie waited with her own breath held after that single word had left her lips. It might be the stillest that lynx had ever managed to stand still as she waited there arms full of random junk. She looked like she had gone through a blender with the holes torn through her clothing that had dried itself out at some point since she'd woken up in these unfamiliar lands of the dead people. Her ears twitched atop her head at the distant squelch noise of another not too far away. Then it stopped when Spizz stopped walking. Those mismatched eyes of blue-green were intently focused on Desiree, pleading the silence that she just move. Not a dead-dead-dead one. Finally, she moved and before Lettie got to see the silver eyes she dropped everything in her arms letting it clatter to the ground, not carrying about the noise. She was bolting across gap between the two and launching herself as Desiree to snare her into a hug, "Mom!" The hiccup in her voice was there, the excitement too.

Desiree stared at Lettie, the things in her arms nothing more than peripheral garbage as she looked at the girls face and those adorable if-scruffy ears. Nope. Nope. She would NOT be tricked again. Those silver eyes locked on the girl as she launched herself and Desiree angled her body away from the hug and touch. "Stop it!" She choked out, a heart broken sob as she wrapped her arms around herself instead of Lettie. Her face was broken. "Stop pretending to be her!" The sounds of someone else had her gaze sharpening on Spizzzo next, and her brows drew together in unabashed hatred. "It's you, isn't it?" Despite his obviously ragged appearance, he was the only other living soul in the area, therefore it had to be him! She jabbed a broken fingernail in his direction. "Are you doing this? WHY! Who are you and where is my family??!"

Spizzzo blinks slowly and clears his throat, thinks better of it, wipes his face off again which just smears around the mud a little more thinly, then clears his throat again, and bows deeply at the waist in Desiree's direction without getting much closer, "Apologies, Miss. I don't mean to intrude, and don't know the particulars of your disagreement with the distraught young lady with peculiar ears. I don't know much of anything, it would seem, apart from this language we're speaking, and that my name is Spizzzo Spizzzoson. I have further deduced that I do not know how to swim."

Lettie blinked as she was twisted away from by Desiree when she launched for a hug. That had never happened before. Her mother always had hugs for her. The lynx stumbled over those untied laces, she really should learn how to tie them, landed on her hands and knees in the grasses just a few paces from Desiree. She didn't feel the debris hidden in the grasses surrounding that lake as it sliced up and through her palm, implanting it as was the luck of chaos cat. She already had a gash along her collarbone falling through flooring exploring. That scent of blood, it was distinct, real, not some illusion. Sitting back on her heels the young woman twisted to look over her shoulder, looking for Riggs, because Hela said Riggs was the bad guy. She didn't see him, just another man. Her gaze stared at Spizz as he spoke, a brow raised at the mouthful his name was. Lifting her hand up to wipe the tears, she didn't catch the moment that same bit in her palm poking over grazed her freckled cheek, "I'm right here." She half whispered out. Except, maybe this was one of those ghosts from her past- nine lives coming to test her. Was Hela wrong on who killed her? Was it really her mother that had done it? Taken that last of nine lives. The tears fell slowly, "I'm sorry I was a bad cat, bad enough you needed to..." she didn't finish, couldn't get out the last words kill me.

Desiree watched Lettie fall and fought against the urge to rush forward to assist. In fact, she took a deliberate step back. The spirits were in high form tonight; they were taunting her. This was bullshit! Except...she caught sight of something on Lettie's collarbone. Was that...blood? Spirits didn't bleed. Did they? She looked back to Spizzzo as he introduced himself and she blinked, wiping some of the tears from her eyes but only spreading the river muck. Weren't they all just gorgeous tonight? "Are you," She swallowed a lump in her throat that was causing her voice to quiver, and only responded once it was more steady. "Are you real?" Beside her foot, there was a test...in the form of a rather heavy looking stick. Without second thought, this "test" was scooped up and thrown at Spizzzo. Hard.

Spizzzo watches the stick hurtle toward his head with a dejected acceptance and weary understanding that his life will come to a conclusion as confusingly as it began, earlier today drowning in a lake. Perhaps he is as surprised as anyone else when his arm moves to snatch it from the air and snap it over his knee. He looks back up from the broken stick to Lettie and Desiree, as if they might have some explanation. "Am I real? I'm sorry, but I've already enumerated all of the facts I am aware of."

Lettie was slow to push up from her stumble and fall after being rejected from a hug by her own mother. The lynx had been so excited to see her of all people that she'd not paused to imagine what kind of hell this new place had been putting her through since landing, alone without her family near. Her hand dripped fresh droplets of blood onto the grass, the broken bit sticking out just enough that it kept the new wound mostly stoppered. She didn't notice, she couldn't feel it. She was too busy watching as Desiree picked up that stick without warning and threw it with might at Spizzzo where he stood. Yup, that was her mother right there. She couldn't leave her here though she wasn't sure the woman wanted her anymore. She braved it, moving closer to Desiree as the stick snapped in half. She spoke to the man, "Have not. You did not explain the facts to why you called my ears peculiar..."

Desiree gasped when the stick was caught and broken with such speed and ease. That stick wasn't little, and it wasn't rotten. It took strength to do that. Her breathing picked up pace as her mind and thoughts began to recalculate. The man in front of her -solid, and not transparent as the spirits so far have been. He was strong. He caught the very physical projectile. He was also not actively attacking her despite having every opportunity. She didn't answer him. She dropped her now silver-eyed gaze to the girl at her side. Calculations. Blood. Smell. The injury to Lettie's hand which made her stomach turn, because...it was real? And then the girl spoke and she was defensive of her ears? It was her...? Desiree's jaws visibly clenched as she carefully reached out, hesitant and ready to withdraw in an instant, to lightly touch one of Lettie's ears. "You're real too?" She looked to Spizzzo, then to Lettie, then back. "This is real?" The concept of reality was apparently a foreign subject now.

Spizzzo drops the broken stick, having served its purpose. What that purpose is, he has no idea, but it seems like he served it. He flicks his own pointed ears and nods to Lettie. "Fair point. In my defense, I didn't know that was a fact before I said it, and I don't know why I did. But, your ears are different from my ears."

Lettie held still as Desiree reached over now to touch one of the ears atop her head. She didn't let many people touch them, ever. Her mother in the known life had been one of them that could get away with it. Under her touch the fur was soft where it wan't matted together from the lake water and other debris she'd gotten stuck in them. Definitely, very real though. "Yea..I'm real." She said softly. Then she gestured with her hands out to the area they were standing in with Spizzzo, "Welcome to..." she paused, scrunched her nose trying to remember the word, "Perrogie? Perrodie? Parody?" She heaved a sigh, grumbling, "Purgatory! That is what Hela said....she wasn't excited to see me either." The last part she mumbled a bit. Not realizing yet it was simply the other woman didn't want the lynx to be dead too. Then toward Spizzzo, "Can I touch your ears? They do look different...do they feel different?"

Desiree touched the ear, felt the warmth, not cold. Her hand didn't go through the girl like it had the other apparitions she'd come across since awakening in this very lake. Oh, there go those too fast breaths again. Her heart thrummed in her ears and tears spilled down her cheeks anew. It was Lettie...her Lettie! Then Lettie mentioned Hela? Hela Foxx? As she twisted her head to look at Spizzzo, the already darkened lake began to haze around the corners, her vision blurred, and her breaths heightened pace until...with a sigh and thunk, her eyes rolled back and closed and she hit the ground. Indeed, she had hyperventilated herself right into fainting. She'll be fine, just make sure she didn't fall face first into the muck. Again.

Spizzzo kneels down to give Lettie access to his ears, and quietly turns Desiree onto her side so she doesn't asphyxiate. "I think it's been a big day. I'm glad it seems you and your mother are here together. I'm going to set up on that watch tower, in case anyone else needs help getting out of the lake."

Lettie reached and touched his ears. "They feel like looooong human ears." She remarked on them, then tilted her head, just a fraction so he could, if he wished, touch one of the fuzzy lynx ones atop her head. "That is nice of you. The lake seems to be the point were people come out of."

Spizzzo taps just the tip of one of Lettie's ears, appreciating the gesture. "Maybe I'm a long human, then."

Lettie tries, but fails from keeping her ear still. It twitches under his touch. "You is tall. So you could be a long one too. Long and tall human."

Spizzzo nods and stands up, looking around. "Well. I'd offer you something, if I had anything, or knew where anything was. Maybe there are some rats in the tower I can roast for dinner."

Lettie looked to him with a smile, "You know how to make the brown lights?!" Fire, she meant fire.

Spizzzo blinks slowly, then shrugs with a smile. "I don't know! I'll have to find out."
