Rules

Last updated: September 19, 2026

Grimwych is an 18+ roleplaying community where players work together to create stories. These rules exist to protect the community, its players, and the collaborative nature of the game.

Above all: collaborate. Grimwych works best when players create stories together rather than trying to win them.

1. Age and Character Requirements

  • You must be 18 years of age or older to play Grimwych.
  • All characters created in Grimwych must also be 18 years of age or older.
  • Character names must be appropriate and may not be offensive, explicit, or intended to impersonate another player or character.
  • Only original characters are permitted. You may not roleplay real-life celebrities or characters who appear in others' copyrighted work.

2. Follow the Law

You may not use Grimwych to engage in, facilitate, or promote activity that violates applicable law. This includes but is not limited to laws relating to cyberhacking and cyberstalking.

3. Treat Other Players with Respect

Respect other players. Treat the person behind the character with courtesy. In-character conflict should remain in character.

The following are not permitted:

  • Harassment, bullying, or personal attacks, including off-platform (for example Discord)
  • Malicious trolling or deliberate disruption
  • Mocking or humiliating other players
  • Hate speech or discriminatory conduct
  • Repeatedly provoking or antagonizing other players
  • Attempts to create hostility or conflict within the community

Grimwych should remain a place where people can write without being targeted or made uncomfortable by other players. Keep disagreements constructive and focused on the game rather than the people playing it.

4. No Metagaming / Keep IC and OOC Separate

Keep IC and OOC separate. Characters may hate one another. Their players do not have to.

Do not use out-of-character (OOC) information to influence in-character (IC) actions. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Allowing OOC relationships or disputes to dictate IC behavior
  • Sharing or exploiting information obtained through OOC channels to gain an unfair IC advantage or interfere with another person's roleplay
  • Abusing bugs, glitches, unintended mechanics, or other system vulnerabilities

5. Keep Roleplay Appropriate

Grimwych does not permit sexually explicit roleplay or excessively graphic depictions of sex, violence, torture, or gore.

Grimwych does allow exploration of dark themes such as abuse, self-harm, addiction, or loss. Dark, violent, romantic, or otherwise sensitive storylines should be approached with consideration for the other players involved. If you are unsure, ask.

It is best practice to warn other players where applicable so that everyone can make an informed choice about whether to participate in a given roleplay.

6. No Powergaming / Do Not Control Another Player's Character

Do not control another player's character. You may write what your character attempts, but leave another character's actions, thoughts, feelings, and reactions to their player.

Roleplay should be collaborative rather than an attempt to control the outcome of every interaction. When the outcome of an action is uncertain or consequential, allow the other player to determine what happens.

You may not:

  • Automatically determine the outcome of another character's actions without giving the other player a reasonable opportunity to respond
  • Declare that your character successfully performs an action against another character when the outcome reasonably depends on that player's response
  • Otherwise make your character unreasonably powerful

7. Respect Consent and Player Boundaries

Respect boundaries and consent. Roleplay must be collaborative and consensual.

You may not:

  • Pressure another player to participate in a scene or storyline they do not want to pursue
  • Continue a roleplay after another player has clearly asked you to stop
  • Use threats, intimidation, manipulation, or OOC pressure to force another player to participate
  • Coercively reframe another player's OOC refusal as an IC storyline

A player is always free to decline a scene, storyline, interaction, or collaboration.

Do Not Deliberately Disrupt Other People's Roleplay

Do not deliberately disrupt other people's roleplay. Give scenes room to develop and allow other players reasonable time to respond.

9. Respect Player Privacy

Do not reveal, attempt to discover, or distribute the real-world identity of another player or information connecting that player to their characters or alternate characters ("alts").

This includes:

  • Revealing or attempting to discover who operates another player's characters
  • Asking players to disclose their alts
  • Sharing another player's OOC contact information or private or identifying information without their consent
  • Attempting to move a player into OOC contact against their wishes
  • Impersonating another player, administrator, or community member

Players may voluntarily share OOC information or contact information if they wish, but no player is obligated to do so.

10. Respect the Roleplay Community

Please do not use Grimwych to promote, recruit for, or disparage other roleplaying games or communities. Many of us writing in Grimwych have roleplayed elsewhere, and we are very grateful for the stories we have co-created and the memories we have made in those communities.

11. Ownership of Intellectual Property

Each Grimwych player retains ownership of their own characters.

Within Grimwych, collaborative scenes, logs, and storylines belong jointly to everyone who took part in them. No single player may demand that a shared scene be taken down, hidden, or altered because a relationship or collaboration has ended.

12. Use of Artificial Intelligence ("AI")

Roleplay is built on the creativity of its players. Use of AI to write roleplay posts is strongly discouraged. Scenes, posts, and in-character writing should be your own original work. AI tools may be used for non-RP reasons, for example character art.

13. No Solicitation

You may not use Grimwych to solicit money, goods, services, or commercial transactions from other players without administrator approval.

Administration and Enforcement

Admins may be reached through the following email address: [Placeholder].

When in doubt, ask an admin. If you are unsure whether a particular interaction, storyline, or behavior is appropriate, please consult an admin before proceeding. Asking for clarification is always preferable to creating a problem and asking afterward.

Admin decisions should be respected. If you disagree with a decision, speak to an administrator privately rather than disrupting the game.

Grimwych is a private, collegial community of players who come together to co-create stories. Participation in Grimwych is voluntary and subject to the discretion of the administration.

The administration has sole discretion in interpreting and enforcing these rules. Depending on the circumstances, violations may result in a warning, restriction, temporary suspension, or permanent removal from Grimwych. The appropriate response to any given situation will take into account the nature and severity of the conduct and the circumstances involved.

The administration may also take action when a player's conduct is reasonably determined to be harmful to the community, even when that conduct does not fall neatly within one of the specific rules above.

Admins are not required to provide a detailed explanation or justification for a ban or other administrative action. The administration reserves the right to act in the best interests of the Grimwych community, which may include reconsidering an action taken upon player request.

By participating in Grimwych, you agree to abide by these rules and to respect the decisions made by the administration.
