Grimwych may be full of locked doors, questionable lakes and things best left unexplained, but the code beneath it is considerably less mysterious.
Grimwych is built from open-source software and contains code derived from the Land of Karchan project.
The applicable portions of that software are licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or, where applicable, a later version.
Grimwych has grown beyond the original installation. We have added our own interface work, game systems, roleplay tools, commands, quality-of-life features, technical changes and other modifications while continuing to build on the original open-source codebase.
The world of Grimwych, its original writing, characters, artwork, branding and other creative material are separate from the open-source software licence unless otherwise stated.
Grimwych is currently operated as an online service rather than distributed as a downloadable game package.
The GPL distinguishes between distributing or conveying copies of software and allowing users to interact with software over a network. Mere network interaction, without transferring a copy of the program, is not treated as conveying under GPLv3. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
If Grimwych distributes GPL-covered object code or binaries in future, the corresponding source will be made available in accordance with the applicable GNU General Public License requirements. GPLv3 provides several permitted ways to make corresponding source available when object code is conveyed. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}
The GNU General Public License allows covered software to be used, studied, modified and redistributed subject to the terms of the licence.
You can read the GNU General Public License on the GNU website .
We are grateful to the people who created and maintained the open-source projects that made Grimwych possible. What began with that foundation is continuing to grow into its own strange little corner of the internet.
